Today I decided to stop by another gas station! I stop by QuikTrip fairly often but have never had their donuts, so I loved this opportunity to see what I’ve been missing. I arrived at the gas station at 11:10 a.m. QuikTrip is always a fairly busy gas station and inside was bustling with customers. I approached the baked goods display and saw a wide variety of pastries. They had everything from twists to muffins to cookies. Unfortunately, their donut choices were very few. I decided on a chocolate frosted cream filled (as usual) and a pumpkin spice donut hole bunch, which looked very interesting.
As I mentioned in my donut adventure to Casey’s General Store, I don’t really trust gas station donuts. I’m not fond of the idea that they could be sitting in the case for many days, have been picked up by multiple people, and have had a sick child sneeze on them. These thoughts made it hard to enjoy these donuts, but, for the sake of the blog, I persevered.
I started with the cream filled donut and hoped for a strong first donut. When I took my first bite however, I wasn’t very impressed with the taste that awaited me. It tasted how I imaged gas station donuts would taste. Not bad, but having an aftertaste that makes you wonder what it was that you actually ate. The dough was pretty dense with, like I said, an interesting aftertaste. I was ready to move on to the second donut, hoping that it would be more promising than the first. I thought the idea of having donut holes baked together was a great idea and made for an incredible pull-apart donut! The dough was pretty nice and frosting was much better than the chocolate frosting on the first donut. It was advertised as a pumpkin spice donut, and I tried so hard but couldn’t taste any hint of pumpkin spice. Other than that, the donut was a pretty average donut, it didn’t wow me, but it wasn’t necessarily bad.
My experience at QuikTrip was very unique. It wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t recommend it for quality donuts. I am going to give QuikTrip a score of 5 out of 10.
